An honour to own - a pleasure to wear
| The
Bowie knife gets its name from an American plantation owner with a reputation for brawling
and carrying what was described as "that butcher knife". This knife and its
owner became famous thanks to the popular press at the time and soon Sheffield knifemakers
were turning out "Bowie Knives" in several patterns. The accepted characteristics of a Bowie knife are a large blade with a clipped point and a weight forward design so it could be used in place of a small axe in a pinch. I have taken some liberty in interpreting the design but for the purists I meant no disrespect |
