                            "SCRIMSHAW"
Scrimshaw or scrimshanding as it is called.  Some trace its roots to the whaling fleet of the American north east about 200 years ago when sailors with time of their hands would scratch pictures into whale's teeth or bone and highlight the scratches by rubbing in soot from the oil lamps.

This art form all but died out with the end of whaling in the northeast but currently in enjoying a revival as a means of embellishing custom knife handles.

When time allows I will sit down and scrim a picture on one of my knives but there never seems to be enough time to do as much scrim as I would like.

"Samples  of  George's  Scrimshaw"
Scrimshaw will add anywhere from $200 and up to the price of the knife

PRACTICAL
Either way, George Tichbourne's knives will capture your attention

initials.gif (2632 bytes)eorge Tichbourne, owner of a well-known metal polishing business in his home city, cranked out his first knife about eight years ago. Since
then, he hasn't taken time to pause. It's been one knife after another, and few have been alike. Naturally, he has honed his skills
over the years, both cutting the time he spends on knife making and improving the quality of the
finish. In short. George makes excellent knives, from just about anything you can imagine.

Living in hunting country, he supplies quite a few outdoors people with hunters and skinners along with a few fillet knives. Then, again, he makes a few art knives once in a while, for his own peace of mind and for collectors who want something special. Whatever, they're all something special and they all reflect the skill he possesses for working with metals and similar materials. Once he has these skills honed and under control and
If he doesn't have a pattern for the particular knife he has in
mind, out comes the pencil and he
begins sketching. When he finally
arrives at what he's after design-wise, then the work starts. Everything is made
